Pokemon GO: How to Get Scatterbug, Spewpa, and Vivillon

Players that want to catch Scatterbug, Spewpa, and Vivillon in Pokemon GO can find details on pinning Postcards and a Vivillon pattern map here.

Scatterbug, Spewpa, and Vivillon are now available in Pokemon GO, and the way that they are obtained is quite unique. Indeed, players that want to catch these Pokemon will need to interact with their Postcard books, and there is incentive to obtain postcards from around the world. This guide is here to provide more details on how this all works and help players add Scatterbug, Spewpa, and Vivillon to their collections in Pokemon GO.

Players that are interested in obtaining Scatterbug should begin by pinning Postcards to their Postcard book. There are two ways in which this can be done, and here are details on both of them:

Players will occasionally earn Gifts in Pokemon GO when they spin PokeStops and adventure with their Buddy Pokemon. These Gifts can be found within the Items menu, and each one will have a Postcard attached to it. Fans that click on these Postcards will be given the option to save them, and selecting that option will pin the Postcards to the player's Postcard book. That said, it is very important to note that fans can only pin three of their own Postcards each day.

Fans that receive Gifts from their Friends in PoGO can also pin the Postcards that are attached to them. To do this, players should click on their Trainer portrait in the bottom-left corner of the screen and then select the Friends tab. Fans should then tap on a received Gift, tap on the attached Postcard, and pin it before opening the Gift.

As players pin Postcards to their Postcard books, they will make progress toward earning encounters with Scatterbug. More specifically, fans will earn their first Scatterbug encounter after pinning three Postcards, their second encounter after pinning nine, and their third encounter and beyond every 15 Postcards that they pin. In order to initiate these encounters, players should click on their Trainer portrait, scroll down to their Badges, click on the Vivillon Collector Badge, and then click on the sub-Badge that says Catch.

This is not quite the full story, though, as Postcards are not all counted toward the same Scatterbug encounters. This is due to the fact that the region from which the Postcards come matters, and it ultimately determines the pattern of the Vivillon that Pokemon GO players will receive from evolving their Scatterbugs. To attempt to illuminate this point with an example, a player would earn a Scatterbug encounter after pinning three Postcards from the western United States, and they would earn another encounter after pinning three Postcards from Japan.

After catching a Scatterbug, players can evolve it into Spewpa with 25 Scatterbug Candy. While that is not a tremendous amount, it is still recommended that fans use Pinap Berries during their Scatterbug encounters. Players may also want to make a Scatterbug their Buddy Pokemon in PoGO in order to increase the rate at which they earn Scatterbug Candy.

Once a player has a Spewpa, they can evolve it into Vivillon in Pokemon GO with an additional 100 Scatterbug Candy. As previously noted, the Vivillon's pattern will be determined by the region that triggered the encounter with the associated Scatterbug, and there are 18 possible patterns. Fans can see this all tracked within the Vivillon Collector Badge, which can again be accessed through the in-game Trainer profile, and here is a map that showcases how the regions are divided:
